Bourbon Alert: Pinhook Bourbon Country

What better Bourbon to add to the Sweet Mash stable than one whose owners name each release after one of their thoroughbred race horses? What better bourbon to sample at our upcoming Bluegrass Prep shopping event on Saturday, March 30th than one whose owners have a horse, Bourbon War, running that same day in the Florida Derby? Pinhook is a real winner!

The Pinhook team really wanted to come a do a tasting at our event this year, but a horse running in a Kentucky Derby prep race is a pretty good excuse for missing out. They did leave us with some info and recipes and plenty of bottles of their most recently released, yummy bourbon. Every year, Pinhook releases a new bourbon and rye, each of which is connected to a promising young thoroughbred horse. The whiskey in each release is the best expression of their barrels at that moment in time, and they blend and proof each release to be as unique as the horse on the label. The most recent release of Pinhook came in the Fall with Bourbon Country. The traditional mashbill has over three years of barrel age and was blended and proofed by Sean Josephs at Castle & Key Distillery just over the river in Millville, KY which is the new distilling home of all things Pinhook. The flavor of Bourbon Country comes in with a fruity burst up front and then settles into a vanilla, toffee expression. The backend of this taste has that slight spice of cinnamon and peppercorn. Sipping perfection on a crisp, Kenneland Spring morning!

Be sure to stop in Sweet Mash on March 30th to get a taste of this bourbon, watch the Florida Derby ( we will be live streaming the race, of course) and do a little shopping. We will have all kinds of sips and snacks while you peruse our collection of race day drinkware and decor. Sweet Mash will be debuting “Lucky” , our vintage spinning wheel sidekick, where you will spin for your discount that day and we guarantee no losers!

Go Bourbon War!!

Cheers!
